A comeback, a late winner, and a playoff series that still has room to turn. The weekend gave fans plenty to talk through, and collectors a reminder to keep the game and the market in separate columns.

Below: verified results first, collector perspective second. Coverage is representative, not a complete account of every game.

01 / Pro scoreboard

Pittsburgh’s overtime finish gave rookie Germie Bernard the winning touchdown. Bernard also caught 11 passes for 87 yards. Jacksonville’s Travis Hunter recorded an interception and a touchdown catch in the loss.

The official recap lists the Bills at 5–1, the Chiefs at 5–0, and the Browns, Ravens, Steelers, Bears, Patriots, Jaguars, and Packers at 4–2. Those are selected records, not a complete standings table.

Injury watch: The NFL’s injury report says Falcons linebacker Kendal Daniels was taken to hospital after a neck injury, alert and with movement in his extremities. Bears lineman Jonah Jackson (hip), Colts cornerback Sauce Gardner (calf), Chiefs tackle Jaylon Moore (concussion protocol), Chargers receiver Ladd McConkey (concussion), Rams kicker Blake Grupe (knee), and Eagles linebacker Nolan Smith (concussion) also appeared in the report, alongside Patriots offensive-line injuries. These are reported statuses, not prognoses.

MLB, ALCS: Tampa Bay beat Cleveland 3–1 Sunday and leads the series 3–2. Drew Rasmussen allowed one earned run over seven innings, and Yandy Díaz had three hits. The official box score has the line. Game 6 is Monday at 8:08 p.m. ET; Game 7 is Tuesday if needed. The World Series begins Friday, October 23, against Milwaukee, with Tampa Bay or Cleveland still to be determined. Check the MLB postseason scoreboard for updates.

MLS, Matchday 31: Matches ran across the weekend. Inter Miami beat Atlanta 3–1, with Lionel Messi scoring twice; he leads the league with 25 goals. Minnesota came back from 2–0 down to beat St. Louis 3–2, ending St. Louis’ unbeaten run. Columbus beat Cincinnati 2–0. The MLS wrap and standings snapshot show Nashville atop the East with 67 points and Vancouver atop the West with 55.

NHL: Saturday, Vegas beat Pittsburgh 6–2; the Golden Knights recap lists Vegas at 8–2–0. Sunday, Carolina lost to Calgary 3–2; Carolina was 7–2–1 and Calgary 2–6–0. For other scores, see the official NHL scoreboard.

02 / Hobby notes

Pokémon TCG: October 2 products (including the Mini Portfolio, enhanced two-pack blister, and 30th Celebration Mini Tin and Booster Bundle) are already out. Next on the official October product calendar: the Deck Crafter’s Collection on October 23, with foil Meowth ex, 39 Trainer cards, and a booster; then 30th Celebration battle decks on October 30, led by Espeon ex and Umbreon ex, with Victini and Zeraora promos.

Market note, reported market pricing, not a public sale: TCGplayer’s October 14 market article charts Latios Prism Star at about $62.27 for October 16–18 and discusses attention around mid-era Prism Star cards. That figure is a market-price trend in the article, not an individual sale or appraisal. We did not verify reliable current graded-population details or independent weekend public-sale evidence for these cards. No extrapolation from a short chart is warranted.

Star Wars cards: 2026 Topps Chrome Star Wars has product information and early-pull coverage at Topps and Ripped. The sources checked did not verify a specific new release, weekend public sale, population change, or demand figure. Checklist and product information are the sensible next research step, not invented chase-card prices.

A new Sports Collectors Daily weekend piece is identified as discussing a Kobe autograph acquisition, show submissions, and a Jordan rookie issue. Its details were not retrievable, so we won’t characterize what happened. We also found no independently verifiable major grading-service change or auction outcome from October 17–18. PSA’s standard-service update is earlier news, not a weekend announcement.

Collector take, Steelers rookies: Bernard’s overtime winner is a reason to add a name to a watchlist, not a reason to chase a premium. Hunter’s two-way plays are notable, too, but Jacksonville still lost. No verified card comps means no proven market price for either performance. Before assigning a value, compare completed sales for the exact year, set, card, parallel, and grade. Reported card prices should be treated as reported public sales, never appraisals.

03 / Grade and protect

A third-party grade records an opinion of a card’s condition. Authentication and encapsulation can help protect the card, while its certification number provides a lookup reference for the grading record. A grade does not guarantee value, and it may be lower than you hoped.

Plan for the full process: grading fee, shipping both ways, transit insurance, turnaround time, and possible upcharges or review. Service levels and terms vary; PSA’s service information is one example, not universal guidance. SNL Sports offers grading support; see our grading page for details.

04 / Virginia collection insurance

Protection starts with a clear record. Keep an inventory list, front-and-back photos, purchase records, and grading certificates. Back up the files separately. Note how items are stored and keep current replacement documentation.

Review your homeowners or renters policy for collectible limits and exclusions. Ask whether a scheduled endorsement or specialty policy fits your collection, and how storage and transit are treated. Coverage depends on the policy and insurer; no setup guarantees a particular claim outcome.

SNL Sports is a sports card shop in Chesapeake, Virginia, founded by Lauren and Scott Janney. Both owners are licensed in Virginia and can discuss insurance options in plain language. Questions are welcome; the right next step is a careful review, not a rushed decision. Visit our contact page.

05 / Hampton Roads

College, confirmed results: ODU women’s soccer beat Georgia Southern 2–1 Sunday. Madison Telmer scored the winner in the 88th minute; ODU is 6–6–2 overall and 4–1–2 in the Sun Belt (ODU recap). ODU men’s soccer lost 5–1 at UCF Saturday; the team is 9–4 overall and 1–4 in the Sun Belt (recap). ODU football lost to Georgia Southern 23–15 on Thursday, October 15 (recap).

Hampton football fell to Sacred Heart 35–21 on October 17. Hampton is 1–6; Tre’Von Taylor threw for 123 yards and two touchdowns (Hampton recap). Christopher Newport women’s soccer beat Bridgewater 2–0 October 17; Anaya Lozano and Caelyn LaFlamme scored (box score). No verified Norfolk State result for October 17–18 was located. That does not establish whether the team played.

High school, confirmed reports only: Oscar Smith beat Grassfield 69–0 October 16; the reported records were Oscar Smith 4–2–1 and Grassfield 2–5 (report). Great Bridge beat Western Branch 27–6; the reported records were Great Bridge 3–4 and Western Branch 0–6 (report). Coverage here is limited to confirmed reportable games. No verified individual stat leaders or injury reports were found.
